Mindfulness

Live in the present.

Today I am enthralled with the concept of mindfulness. It is the concept of being completely consumed with the present with a heightened awareness of your surroundings. This state of mindfulness should not be confused with a time when you notice every little thing that is wrong, because it is not judgmental.

So much of our days are spent running from place to place, hardly stopping to eat or breathe. We get so caught up in our to do lists that we don’t take any time to truly enjoy and embrace the world around us. The practice of mindfulness seems like a time suck, but it doesn’t have to be. One simple way to be mindful is to slowly eat one meal a day. I would recommend lunch, because it is important to give yourself a break in the middle of the day. Be mindful of each bite, observing how your food tastes and how it makes you feel. Mindfulness is a way to enjoy the things in your day that you are already doing with no thought.

We make so many decisions every day, but we do not think much past that. This concept helps to break down why we do these things and gain a deeper understanding of ourselves with no judgement. It helps you understand why you listen to the music you do in the car or why you eat what you do for lunch. Take time to appreciate and enjoy the small things in your day today. By doing this you will inadvertently begin to see the world in a more positive light and the beauty each day holds.
