Are you consistent?

consistencyWhat are the things that give you anxiety, stress, self-doubt or just plain unhappiness? Is it too much to do in a given day? Is it lack of exercise you keep promising yourself you will do? Is it not enough sleep? One could argue that we don’t accomplish the things we want to each day due to a lack of consistency. Even the most consistent people struggle with this in one way or another. For example, you may be great at getting up and working out every single day, but you are not consistently giving yourself time to relax and chill out in the evening.

So, why does this matter? It matters because consistency is something that keeps us level and balanced. Without it we find ourselves riddled with anxiety, stress and self-doubt. While it is unrealistic to accomplish everything you ever wanted in every single day, we can make efforts to balance ourselves out through some sort of consistency.

In my case, not being a super consistent person, I find consistency with loose rules. For example, I set goals for myself to exercise for 30 minutes every day. Since my schedule varies I work it in when it is convenient. The common misconception about consistency is that things have to be done the exact same way at the exact same time to be consider consistent. While this may work for very structured people, others like me need flexibility to accomplish this.

Take time today to think about the one thing you have been unable to do lately due to a lack of consistency. Know how you operate and make a plan. If you can add that to your new routine and be consistent you will reap the benefits and find yourself happier and healthier.
