Nothing in life is certain

Today I am filled with self-perpetuated anxiety. My anxiety is stemming from my imagesuncertainty in areas of my life. This fear of not knowing is a problem that only I can manage.

I left my full-time job to pursue my passions and create a business for myself. What I failed to recognize was the stress that comes from not knowing. Owning your own business brings a multitude of uncertainties. If you are not careful, you could spend your day worrying if you will pay yourself or not, how you will spend your days and what you will get accomplished. Today I feel this pressure. I feel the uncertainty.

What I have to keep reminding myself is that I am ok. I am making progress. I am not failing, yet. However, it can be tough to focus on long-term goals when all you can think about is reaching your goals right now and potential obstacles in the way.

I stumbled across a quote from Simone de Beauvoir that reminded me why I am doing what I am today. She said, “ I tore myself away from the safe comfort of certainties through my love for truth- and truth rewarded me.” At the moment I read it, I realized that I chose these uncertainties. I chose to follow my heart and the truth for my life. My reward is satisfaction in pursuing my dreams.

Life is full of uncertainties. Whether we chose the path that led to those uncertainties or not, we all face them. The key is to be true to yourself throughout those moments. Take peace in knowing you are honoring yourself despite the uncertain situation you may be in. Rather than fighting the unknown, let the suspense of life drive you closer to your true self.
