Hopes and Dreams

In talking with some ladies who I am in a networking group with this morning, the topic imagesof life direction and purpose was brought up. One woman was talking about the pressure her son is under to have a path clearly laid out and chosen upon his high school graduation. She was not applying this pressure, but rather society.

As we all began to share our experiences we found that none of us ever dreamed of or planned to be where we are today. In fact, none of us could have imagined that we would follow our dreams so effortlessly. We also agreed that just because you have chosen a path for right now does not mean it is your only path.

I think the biggest thing I have learned as I age and change is that your values, ideas, and interests naturally evolve too. It is important to remember that your journey is solely yours and it will look different than others.

Try not to get caught up in what your life “should” look like at different stages. This distorted reality can misguide you and inhibit you from pursuing your hopes and dreams. Your heart and mind are the best tools you can utilize to discover your path. Just know that your path will change and change is ok.

Tracy Chapman once said, “people’s real hopes and dreams can be distorted and misdirected and packaged until you’re not sure what you really want or what you even really need.” So, look deep within and do not let the world determine your path. Life is a winding road. You get to choose how you walk down it.
