I am not going to lie, Grad School is really tough. I can honestly say that I was not prepared for the workload, emotional challenges, and overwhelming knowledge I have been accumulating. However, I keep reminding myself to be gentle with myself.
I am a very “all or nothing” kind of person. So, when it comes to school and the things we are learning, I find myself wanting to apply them right now and fix things within myself immediately. But the reality is that change takes time. Change is challenging, and is why many of us choose to remain exactly the same.
So, if you are going through a transition period in your life, remember to be gentle with yourself. Trying to fit a square peg into a round hole will never work. You have to slowly round the edges and evaluate where you’re at. Eventually, it will fit and come together. If no one is telling you that you’re doing great and doing your best, then tell yourself. After all, we tend to trust our self-criticism, so why not trust our loving and positive self-talk too.
